Many thanks to Giselle Henry, Aboriginal Coordinator on the PSAC BC Regional Council, who has volunteered to prepare a monthly listing of community events - many of which are related to Indigenous issues - from around the province that may be of interest to PSAC members. Kelowna – Federal public service workers and allies will gather outside Stephen Fuhr's constituency office at a rally calling on the federal government to take the measures necessary to ensure public service workers are paid correctly and on time. “Federal government workers in Kelowna worry constantly about whether or not they will receive a correct pay cheque, or one at all.” says Eddy Bourque, National President of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union. “We are calling on the government to fix their payroll system once and for all.”

Friends, Sisters, Brothers, Local Presidents and Executive members, I encourage you to consider affiliating your Local to the District Labour Council (DLC) in your area. Joining a DLC provides a valuable opportunity for PSAC members to gather with fellow union members to exchange information, extend mutual support, and represent the interests of working people in your community.

On Friday, February 24, PSAC will mark the first anniversary of Phoenix. We want to continue to draw attention to the Phoenix pay system and its problems and send a strong message to the Prime Minister and MPs that our members have been waiting for too long; fix the Phoenix pay problems and learn from your mistakes! Here are some ideas for how PSAC members can send a strong message to the government and our employers on February 24th.

To: PSAC National Aboriginal Peoples Circle members in BC In order to maximize participation of our Aboriginal membership at the Sacred Water Ceremony in Victoria, BC on December 10, 2016 the National Aboriginal Peoples Circle has provided limited funding to assist with travel costs. Aboriginal members who have self identified and are in good standing with PSAC may be approved to claim up to $75.00 dollars per member for such minor costs as mileage, local transit or ferry.
