Nominate a deserving PSAC member for a PSAC BC Regional Recognition Award

The PSAC BC Recognition Awards are presented to members who have provided exemplary service or have been role models and mentors for our members. The objective is to recognize PSAC members in British Columbia for their commitment to the labour movement and to work that benefits PSAC members or their community. The recipients of the awards will be chosen each year at a BC Regional Council meeting.

If you are aware of a PSAC BC member who fits the criteria and wish to nominate them for one of these awards, please review the guidelines below and complete the online nomination form below.

THE FOUR YEARLY AWARDS

Emerging Activist Award: Awarded to a member of the BC Region who has proven themselves as a future leader of our union. Someone who has recently gotten more involved with our union and is taking on positions, learning more about our union and their collective agreement and is dedicating their time to justice for workers. This person should be a PSAC member in good standing and a member who works and lives in the BC Region.

Community Champion Award: Awarded to a member of the BC Region who is active and involved in their community. Someone who participates in community events, dedicates time to volunteer work, and works towards making their community a better place for everyone. This person should be a PSAC member in good standing and a member who works and lives in the BC Region.

Mobilizing Mentor Award: Awarded to a member of the BC Region who is active and involved and makes room for others to grow. This person has a kind heart and recognizes the value of mentorship and invests time into others’ success. This is for a person who leads by example, fosters positive energy and promotes positive change. This is a member who dedicates a portion of their time to teaching others and leading by example, encourage others by passing on their knowledge and experience, and is inclusive and makes an effort towards succession planning. The recipient should be a PSAC member in good standing who works and lives in the BC Region.

Union Warrior Award: Awarded to a member of the BC Region who takes on tough challenges or situations in the workplace without hesitation. Someone who consistently follows through with responsibilities and helps educate members on their collective agreement and rights. Someone involved in bargaining or organizing in their workplace or dedicated to making their local and workplace a better place. A member who makes a difference. This person should be a PSAC member in good standing and a member who works and lives in the BC Region.

CRITERIA AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The member may be nominated by their own local, a member of an Area Council or a nationally or regionally recognized Committee, or a member of the Regional Council. The nomination should be submitted online through the PSAC BC website and must include the nominator’s information, the nominee’s information and a biography that addresses how the member fulfills the eligibility requirements to receive the award. The nomination could include photographs, videos or a short, written submission (150-500 words) or testimonials of union members or members of the community who feel the member is deserving of the award.

More than one member may receive these awards. All nominations shall be reviewed for recommendation by the Regional Council Donations, Awards, Subsidies and Honours (DASH) Committee before the Fall in person meeting. The DASH Committee must come to a majority decision in order for the recommendation to go forward to the Regional Council for review and approval.
