We are devastated by the horrendous attack that took place in Orlando over the weekend, targeting primarily queer and trans people of colour who were celebrating Pride. PSAC stands in solidarity with GLBT communities and pledges to honour the memories of 49 people who were killed by continuing to stand up against homophobia, transphobia, racism and Islamophobia.
PSAC is committed to advancing the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Canada.
June 20 to 29, 2014 marks the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Commemorating Stonewall and other historic achievements in the struggle for GLBT rights, PSAC members are organizing and participating in Pride celebrations and events across the country. This year, several PSAC members are also attending WorldPride 2014 and the WorldPride Human Rights Conference in Toronto.
May 17, or the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia—as it is widely recognised—is an essential feature in the international LGBT rights calendar. In the 9th edition, in 2013, commemorations took place in almost 120 countries, in all world regions.
Dear PSAC members in BC,The World Pride Human Rights Conference is being held from June 25-27, 2014 in Toronto, in conjunction with the World Pride Celebrations, also taking place in the city. PSAC is sending a delegation to the Conference, including members from BC, who will be fully funded to represent PSAC’s GLBT community.
Over the next few months, members and allies of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community will celebrate their identities and the great victories of the last 20 years. The PSAC is proud of the victories that we have won through collective bargaining, litigation and mobilization for GLBT members. Together, we will overcome the many obstacles that remain to real equality and justice for all.
Let's make 2013 Victoria Pride Parade the biggest PSAC participation that the island has ever seen! The Vancouver Island Human Rights Committee would like to invite all Locals and PSAC members on Vancouver Island to march together as a PSAC convoy in the upcoming Victoria Pride Parade July 7, 2013. In the past years, we have marched behind multi-union convoys but we would like to encourage more PSAC locals and committees to come out, show support and march together.
