The BC Regional Recognition Awards were created by the PSAC BC Regional Council to recognize and salute the tireless work our members do every day in their Locals, their committees or councils, and their communities. It’s a way for us to say thank you to our members for their commitment to the labour movement, their efforts to make our union stronger, and their work in the community. The recipients are nominated by members of their Local, Branch, Area Council, or Regional Committee and confirmed throughout each year by the BC Regional Council.
Here are the members who were celebrated at the BC Region’s virtual awards night, January 26th.
Terri Lee, Solidarity Excellence Award
The Solidarity Excellence Award recognizes members of the BC Region who have rendered service of the greatest distinction and of singular excellence in any field of endeavour, benefiting the PSAC or its members.
John Davies and Curtis Martin, Emerging Activist Award
This award is presented to a member of the BC Region who has proven themselves as a future leader of our union. These members have recently gotten more involved with our union, taken on new positions, learned more about our union and the collective agreement and dedicated their time to justice for workers.
Nielene Chand, Community Champion Award
This award is presented to a member of the BC Region who is active and involved in their community, participates in community events, dedicates time to volunteer work, and works towards making their community a better place for everyone.
Kareen Stanich and Nancy Sermons, Mobilizing Mentor Award
This award is presented to a member of the BC Region who is active and involved and makes room for others to grow. These members have a kind heart and recognize the value of mentorship and investing time into others’ success. They lead by example, foster positive energy and promote positive change. They have dedicated time to teaching and encouraging fellow members.
Paul Jones, Kelly Megyesi, and Bert Farwell Union Warrior Award
This award is presented to members who have taken on tough challenges or situations in the workplace without hesitation. They consistently follow through with responsibilities and help educate members on their collective agreement and rights. They make a difference!
