Pension Info Session with the MHGYWC

The Mainland and Haida Gwaii Young Workers Committee is happy to announce a Pension Information Session! Once again, we’ve taken feedback you provided and put together a session requested by PSAC Young Workers. Join us on Wednesday, March 18 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM via Zoom for an informative session with fellow PSAC BC Young Workers.

Unlike most of those offered by the employer, this pension session is geared towards young workers in the public service. It will provide you with a basic understanding of your pension and empower you to prepare for your future. With a focus for those under the Public Service Superannuation Act (which includes most federal public service workers), the session will include a general overview to help you understand pension and retirement basics. We’ll also provide time for questions so you can get the answers you need on pensions.

The session will cover the following topics: 

• Why retirement planning matters
• Overview of retirement income sources
• Understanding the PSSA pension plan
• How PSSA adjustments work
• How union/collective bargaining impacts pensions
• Life events and pensions (parental leave, LWOP, buyback, leaving service)
• Pension statements and available tools
• Q&A
