Interview with Josée Tremblay

Why did you become a Bargaining Team member?

I became a bargaining team member because I wanted to contribute to the work being done on behalf of our members, represent their interests, and support the bargaining team in achieving the best possible outcomes. I was also excited for the opportunity to learn, grow, and gain a better understanding of the bargaining process.

What’s the most rewarding part of being on the Bargaining Team?

This is my first round on the bargaining team, and so far, the most rewarding part has been the opportunity to learn more about the bargaining process and contribute issues and perspectives that matter to our members. I am also enjoying getting to know and working with the other team members, as well as our negotiator and researcher.

What has surprised you most about bargaining?

What has surprised me the most is how comprehensive the process is. There is a tremendous amount of effort involved, and every step is carefully considered, reviewed, and discussed. It is far more detailed and time-consuming than I had anticipated, which makes the final outcome all the more impressive and highlights the dedication and commitment invested by everyone involved.

What keeps you motivated?

All of you! The people we represent. I recently had the opportunity to meet with members from locals in Manitoba, and it was great to connect with them, answer their questions, and hear their perspectives. It was a reminder that there are so many people behind us who are counting on the bargaining team to represent their interests. Knowing that the outcome of our work can have a meaningful impact on so many lives is both a great responsibility and a strong source of motivation. I have also really enjoyed getting to know the other bargaining team members and working alongside such a dedicated group of people.

How does member support affect you at the table?

Member support has a significant impact on me at the bargaining table. The encouragement and engagement from members help me stay the course, especially when the pace of the process can sometimes be challenging. It serves as a reminder of who we are there to represent and why the work is so important.

Member support also strengthens our position at the table. When the employer sees that the bargaining team has the backing of its membership, it reinforces the importance of the issues being raised and demonstrates that we are speaking with a strong, united voice. It is also invaluable when I need clarification or feedback on issues, as member input helps ensure that we are accurately reflecting the concerns and priorities of those we represent.

Is there anything else you’d like members to know?

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve on the Bargaining Team. It has been a rewarding experience, and I am grateful for the trust members have placed in us. We know there may be difficult times ahead, but your continued engagement and support are essential to our success. I encourage everyone to stay informed, ask questions, and take the time to review Appendix K, as it contains important information that may be relevant to you. Together, we are stronger and better positioned to achieve positive outcomes for all members.
