Join PSAC BC Women’s Coordinator in supporting Purple Lights Night
On Thursday 1st October PSAC BC Women’s Coordinator, Julie Kelly, attended the tree lighting ceremony at the Chilliwack RCMP for Purple Lights Night.
Purple Lights is an event that runs each October to shine “more light” on intimate partner violence in our communities. This campaign is held in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence, and to support those who are still living with abuse and who have survived intimate partner violence.
The Purple Lights Nights Campaign is meant to increase awareness among community members about the presence and effects of intimate partner violence in our communities, and increase awareness about the available supports and programs.
You can support the Campaign by picking up a purple lightbulb to shine at your home, many businesses in the community are selling them by donation.
In 2026, Bill C225, also known as Bailey’s Law, was passed. Bailey’s Law strengthens Canada’s legal framework for intimate partner violence. It is named after a BC mother who was killed by her estranged partner.
“Every ribbon, porch light, and purple shirt says the same thing: no one should have to face abuse alone. Please light your home, wear the colour, share the message, and let survivors in your community know they are seen and believed. Together, one night of purple becomes a year-round promise that help is available and no one is invisible.” – Julie Kelly
