From June 9 to 12, the bargaining team for UCTE Local 20209 met with the employer for four days of negotiations toward a renewed collective agreement.
The union brought forward a comprehensive set of proposals developed through consultation with members. These proposals addressed a variety of workplace priorities, ranging from pay and benefits to day-to-day operational concerns. The demands presented reflect the diverse needs and experiences of the workforce at the Victoria Airport.
Throughout the week, both parties engaged in constructive discussions, including on topics such as projected airport growth and how to ensure employees are supported and set up for success. The employer also presented its own package of proposals during the sessions.
With the conclusion of this latest round of talks, the two sides have now completed the “non-monetary” phase of bargaining. This means they have worked through proposals that don’t involve direct financial costs, such as changes to workplace language, policies, or procedures. While not all proposed changes were adopted, the union did achieve several notable improvements.
The next phase of negotiations will focus on monetary issues, including wages and other cost-related items. The team expects to schedule another set of dates with the employer in the near future. Updates will continue to be shared as progress is made. We remain hopeful that we will be able to achieve an agreement with the employer that meets the needs of members and values the work they perform at Victoria Airport.
