Last week, PSAC BC Regional Executive Vice-President Jamey Mills traveled to Prince Rupert to meet directly with PSAC members working in a range of federal workplaces. The visit was an important opportunity to connect face-to-face with members, hear about the issues that matter to them, and see firsthand the vital work PSAC members perform across the region.
Jamey was joined by Young Workers Coordinator Kaj Stirler and Women’s Coordinator Priscilla Lam. The group was hosted by Northwest BC Area Council President David Lewis, whose support helped make the visit a great success.
The day began at early with a visit to the Coast Guard Office at Seal Cove, where members of UCTE Local 20213 shared their experiences and challenges on the job. Later that morning, the group met with members of AGR Local 20042 at the Canadian Grain Commission Office to discuss their workplace concerns and priorities.

In the afternoon, the group visited the Canadian Border Services Agency Office to meet with members of CIU 20042, followed by a stop at the Fisheries & Oceans Office, home to some UHEW Local 20147 members. At each stop, members spoke candidly about the realities they face in their workplaces — from workload pressures and staffing issues to concerns about working in northern community.

“These conversations are crucial,” said Mills. “They help us stay grounded in the realities of PSAC members and ensure we’re fighting for the right priorities at the bargaining table and beyond. Every workplace has unique challenges, and visits like these give us the insight we need to support our members effectively.”
Thank you to all the members who took time out of their day to meet with Jamey and the group, and for sharing their stories.PSAC members keep communities running, and your voices strengthen our union.
