Basic Strike Training for Treasury Board Members (Virtual) – 1 Hour

Location: This session is virtual and will be held via Zoom. Particpants will need access to a laptop or another device with an internet connection to take part in the training. Please register in advance to attend this virtual session.

Who should attend: Any PSAC Treasury Board member in British Columbia who wants to better understand strikes and how members can prepare. No previous union experience or training is required.

Description: Basic Strike Training for Treasury Board Members is a 60-minute session that provides members in British Columbia with a clear and practical introduction to strike basics. We are beginning this training early because the best way to avoid a strike is to be prepared for one.

Participants will learn what a strike is, explore different types of strike action, and discuss common myths and misconceptions. The session will also cover strike pay, strike structures and roles, how members can build support in their workplaces, and what members can do now to prepare.

The session will conclude with current updates, key messages, and next steps, with time for questions as available.

Special note: SV members chose binding arbitration as their dispute resolution route. This means they cannot take strike action this round; any unresolved issues will be decided by an arbitrator. However, SV members often share workplaces with members of other bargaining groups, so understanding the strike process and how members can support one another remains valuable.
