The tentative agreement acheived earlier today has been ratified by SEIU Local 2 workers at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). These 233 workers are responsible for cleaning almost the entire airport and have been without a contract since September. The employer, Alpine Building Maintenance, had refused to offer wages that keep up with rising costs and has applied for a last offer vote. However, under the pressure of escalating strike action by SEIU members, a tentative deal was reached this morning, narrowing avoiding a full strike at YVR. This afternoon SEIU Local 2 conducted a vote of the membership and the tentative deal was ratified, which ends the job action at YVR.
PSAC BC extends our congratulations to SEIU Local 2 workers. Their job action succeeded in pressuring Alpine Building Maintenance to come back to the table with a better offer for workers. Thanks to PSAC BC members at YVR who were able to provide their integral support to SEIU Local 2 members during this challenging situation.
