About Kaj Stirler
Kaj Stirler (he/him) is a public service worker and committed union activist based in Duncan, BC, in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. He currently serves as Young Workers Coordinator on the PSAC BC Regional Council, where he supports and engages young union members across British Columbia.
In this regional role, Kaj also chairs the Vancouver Island Young Workers Committee (VIYWC) and previously served as Vice-Chair of the committee and as Co-Chair of the PSAC BC Young Workers Summit. Through these positions, he helped organize summits and events that brought young workers together to discuss workplace challenges, build skills, and strengthen their participation in the union. His efforts include facilitating member outreach, being active within many facets of both UNDE and the PSAC, and contributing to initiatives that encourage the next generation of union leaders.
At the local level, Kaj serves as President of the North Vancouver Island Area Council and as Vice-President of UNDE Local 21011. He actively participates in a wide range of union activities, including advanced local officers training, PSAC Area Council meetings, Regional Council summits, and activist events. He has joined PSAC leadership on site visits to connect with members in communities such as Prince Rupert, represented the union at events such as Cowichan Pride, and spoken to resolutions at BC Federation of Labour conventions.
Colleagues have noted Kaj’s strong interest in union processes and his willingness to take on responsibilities that help build solidarity and effective representation. During his term as Young Workers Coordinator, Kaj will focus on succession planning, mentorship, and ensuring he is available to younger members to give them insights and help them achieve their goals. Furthermore, Kaj will have a strong focus on building our capacity as a union. He’ll do this both by hosting community events that add value to local communities while simultaneously building the union’s reputation, and by working directly with members and doing site visits to increase awareness and visibility of what we’re trying to achieve as a collective.
A resident of Cowichan Bay and a proud father, Kaj brings a dedicated and practical approach to his activism. He is committed to advancing workersโ rights, promoting safe and fair workplaces, protecting strong public services, and ensuring that young workers have meaningful opportunities to shape the future of the labour movement. Through consistent involvement in meetings, planning, training, and outreach, he continues to play a constructive role in strengthening PSAC BC and the broader union community in British Columbia.
In his spare time, Kaj enjoys indoor rock climbing and bouldering.
