About Laura Wildly
Laura Wildly (she/her & they/them), USJE Local 20017, is a compassionate and dedicated activist with nine years’ experience in leadership roles within USJE and PSAC BC. She first got her start as a Shop Steward with USJE and, in quick succession, became Local Vice-President and then President, a position she has occupied since 2018. From 2023-2026, Laura also served as East Fraser Valley Coordinator on the PSAC BC Regional Council and is now the 2026-2029 2SLGBTQIA+ (Pride) Coordinator. Furthermore, since 2021, Laura has systematically been voted CSC Pacific Alternate Regional Vice-President. Prior to USJE, Laura’s union activism included serving in the Agriculture Union and the Union of Correctional Officers.
Laura’s decision to become PSAC BC’s Pride Coordinator is motivated by her strong sense of empathy, her commitment to fairness, and an openness to listen, learn, and unlearn. As a member of multiple equity seeking groups, she feels that joining the PSAC Regional Council is the ideal platform to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the membership while ensuring that all voices are heard and considered. The role represents a further opportunity to contribute to positive changes within PSAC and USJE more broadly.
As an active participant in all union mobilization events, Laura attends countless trainings and conferences. In her role as Pride Coordinator, Laura hopes to strengthen, expand, and deepen 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion across the PSAC BC region. She will focus on building relationships that matter, advancing and increasing visibility, and ensuring that Pride work is rooted in intersectionality, Indigenous inclusion, and solidarity across all equity groups. Laura’s goal is to leave the role with more resources, more representation, and more empowered members than when she began. Pride work is collective work, and Laura is committed to building a region where every 2SLGBTQIA+ member is seen, valued, protected, and celebrated.
For 17 years, Laura served in the federal public service, including 15 years with the Correctional Service of Canada, first in uniform, then in rehabilitative programs. That journey taught her that healing, dignity, and safety matter for everyone, including the workers who show up every day. As a queer woman working in a traditionally conservative environment, she learned how powerful it is to be visible, and how necessary it is to fight for spaces where people don’t have to hide who they are, which directly contributed to her equity work and union leadership. Laura is committed to building a union where 2SLGBTQIA+ members feel seen, valued, and protected, a union where every member can show up whole.
Laura lives with her wife in Washington State. She commutes back to Canada every day.
