The next BC provincial election takes place this October 19th and workers’ rights will most certainly be up for debate.
As union members, we must stay vigilant to ensure workers’ rights are protected and maintained, especially when an election is on the horizon. It’s important that we work together to elect a labour-friendly government so that we do not lose everything we have fought so hard to earn for working people and their families.
But we can’t do that unless workers show up to vote on Saturday, October 19th. We know too well that elections can be won and lost within a vote or two. With the collapse of the BC United Party, we know this that this provincial election will be close. Incredibly close. And every vote will make a difference.
That is why we want every PSAC members across BC to vote in the upcoming provincial election this fall.
Take the pledge to vote on October 19th.
I pledge to vote in the BC provincinal election for a candidate who will support workers and all British Columbians.
Together, we can elect a provincial government that works for workers.
Why is it important to vote this October?
When we vote, we help decide the government that will shape our future for the next four years. If the wrong party is elected, we could lose all the gains we’ve made for workers in BC over the last few years: single-step certification (card check), pay transparency, 5 days paid sick leave, minimum wage increases and future increases indexed to CPI, and much more.
And the work isn’t done. We need the right government in place to work for workers.
Working people and their families need a progressive government that respects and protects workers’ rights. A progressive government will not only help working families. A progressive government will ensure that BC can tackle the pressing issues that affect all of us: affordable housing, the rising cost of living, accessible and quality child care for all, protecting public services like health care and education, climate justice and good jobs, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Find out who is running in your electoral district, get the facts on their party and positions, and pledge to vote this October for a candidate in your community who will represent the values of working people.
