PSAC BC will be hosting its Regional Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) Gathering November 13-15, 2026.
This Gathering will bring Indigenous members together to share lived experiences, strengthen Indigenous voices within our union, support reconciliation and decolonization, and build collective power within PSAC.
We are inviting PSAC BC Indigenous members who want to help plan and shape this event to apply for the Organizing Committee.
The Gathering will be planned and delivered with respect for Indigenous protocols and teachings, including appropriate territorial recognition and space for ceremony of cultural practices.
We are looking for applicants who:
- Have self-identified as a PSAC BC Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit) member. If you haven’t done so in the past, you can self-identify online.
- Are members in good standing (MIGS)
- Are willing to work together in a respectful, collaborative way
- Can commit time before and after the Gathering
- Have organizing, union, community, or cultural experience. (Experience is helpful, but not required.)
What does the Organizing Committee do?
Organizing Committee members help to:
- Plan Gathering themes, agenda, and priorities;
- Ensure Indigenous perspectives, protocols, and union values are reflected;
- Support ceremony planning and culturally safe spaces;
- Attend Zoom meetings during weeknight evenings (bi-weekly at first, then weekly closer to the event); and
- Complete tasks between meetings with support from PSAC staff and fellow members.
Organizing Committee members become automatic delegates to the Gathering.
Please note: The Organizing Committee will automatically include the PSAC BC Regional Council Indigenous Coordinator, Darien Gomez, who also serves as the PSAC BC National Indigenous Peoples Circle (NIPC) Male Representative. Additionally, one Organizing Committee position will be reserved for the PSAC BC NIPC Female Representative following the completion of the applicable election process.
How to Apply:
Please email PSAC BC Regional Representative Alex (Vital) Stuit with a submission, explaining (in 400 words or less):
- Why you want to be part of the Organizing Committee;
- If you have any experience serving on an Organizing Committee. If yes, what committee(s)? Tell us what experience you have developed in the role. If not, tell us about any related experience you have;
- What issues or priorities you think the Gathering should focus on; and
- If you are able to commit to evening Zoom Organizing Committee meetings that will take place prior to the Gathering.
Please Note: Organizing Committee meetings will normally be held by Zoom during weeknight evenings. For those selected for the Organizing Committee, you would be meeting on a bi-weekly basis once selected. In the weeks leading up to the Gathering, the Committee will meet weekly. There will also be tasks assigned to committee members between meetings.
Accessibility and Cultural Safety: PSAC BC is committed to a culturally safe, inclusive, and barrier free process. Please tell us if you need accessibility supports, accommodations, or cultural considerations to participate fully.
