About Michael Reeves
Michael Reeves (he/him) sits on the PSAC BC Regional Council as your West Fraser Valley Coordinator and is the PSAC BC West Fraser Valley Area Council President. With a decade of union activism under his belt, Michael has held several leadership positions at the Local and Regional level including USJE Local 20086 President, Vice-President, and Treasurer; and USJE Alternate Regional Vice-President.
Michael is deeply committed to the broader mission of the Public Service Alliance of Canada: defending public services, protecting workers’ rights, and pushing back against the constant pressure to do more with less. Michael believes this work is never finished, and it requires steady, grounded leadership at every level of the organization.
In his role as West Fraser Valley Coordinator, Michael will bring consistency, transparency, and a strong commitment to member-driven decision-making. He will listen first, act with purpose, and always keep the focus where it belongs: on the members. Michael’s plan for the West Fraser Valley (WFV) is to bring a strong voice on Regional Council, host more events that support members, conduct more outreach with locals in the WFV, and increase member involvement.
Michael is motivated more than ever to be involved in the union because working conditions keep getting worse with the employer. When Michael first started as a parole officer, there were no staff safety assessments on new cases and he was put in many dangerous situations that should have been avoided. Michael committed to ensuring these dangerous situations don’t happen to any members, especially new folks coming into the public service.
A highlight from Michael’s past three years has been putting on the annual December 6th Vigil in partnership with the New Westminster & District Labour Council. It’s important to Michael that we remember and recognize the terrible events at Polytechnique Montréal and that the victims are never forgotten.
Outside of work and union activism, you can find Michael playing ball hockey or softball, hiking, hanging out with his dogs, and running.
